Attainable Housing

Loudoun has an unmet demand for attainable housing. The Unmet Housing Needs Strategic Plan is a start, but the long-term solution must be at a regional level. I support working with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments on attainable housing goals and new innovative policies, especially near the Metro stations. I also support an affordable-by-design policy to expand housing attainability with small, diverse housing options and a wide range of housing types located near schools, amenities, and public transit.

I will partner with the community, the region, and industry to meet the following goals:

  • Seek increased general funds to the Housing Trust to support more loans for affordable housing programs
  • Support a County land bank to address unmet housing needs (criteria needs to be developed to guide property purchase, including zoning, location, and density)
  • Encourage the development industry to proffer land instead of affordable dwelling units so that the County can provide housing for our lowest income households
  • Increase the percentage of affordable dwelling units in residential development projects
  • Expand the down payment program for households with incomes up to 100% of the area median income
